چکیده

This paper presents an approach to quantifying current and future city-wide flood risks to Ho Chi Minh City. Here urban planning scenarios linking urban development and climate change explore the main driving forces of future risk. According to the redefined role of urban environmental planning in times of climate change, spatial planning needs to go beyond traditional planning approaches to bring together, draw upon and integrate individual policies for urban adaptation strategies for land-use planning. Our initial research results highlight that the spatiotemporal processes of urban development, together with climate change, are the central driving forces for climate-related impacts. The influence of planned urban developments to the year 2025 on future flood risk is seen to be significantly greater than that of projected sea-level rise to the year 2100. These results aid local decision making in an effort to better understand the nature of future climate change risks to the city and to identify the main driver of urban

Spatial Indicators for Assessing Climate Risks and Opportunities within the Urban Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

This paper describes the research results in the development of spatial indicators for assessing both climate risks and opportunities for the southern Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). The assessment is based upon a shared spatial framework, utilising an urban structure type approach. The key urban environmental impact indicator of imperviousness is provided as an example. The propose...

Nonlinear Bending Analysis of Functionally Graded Plates Using SQ4T Elements based on Twice Interpolation Strategy

This paper develops a computational model for nonlinear bending analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates using a four-node quadrilateral element SQ4T within the context of the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). In particular, the construction of the nonlinear geometric equations are based on Total Lagrangian approach in which the motion at the present state compared with the initia...

Finite Element Analysis of Functionally Graded Skew Plates in Thermal Environment based on the New Third-order Shear Deformation Theory

Functionally graded materials are commonly used in thermal environment to change the properties of constituent materials. The new numerical procedure of functionally graded skew plates in thermal environment is presented in this study based on the C0-form of the novel third-order shear deformation theory. Without the shear correction factor, this theory is also taking the desirable properties a...

The Challenge of Spatial Information Management for Adaptation to Climate Change in Ho Chi Minh City

The environmental dimension of spatial planning in emerging Asian megacities such as Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has become a strong rationale for coordinating spatially well defined adaptation actions and integrating mitigation policies. Climate change is changing the traditional context of urban development planning and is shaping the priorities of sustainability. While urban development trends i...
